Dear List members
The Post launch trajectory( July 1 launch date intended) for the CONTOUR spacecraft is available from JPL's HORIZON system. I mention this because the spacecraft doesnt
leave Earth orbit till August 15, giving some observers a chance to glimpse it.
IT will be in a 1.75 day orbit with an apogee of 18 Earth radii. Intended solar orbit injection is over the Indian Ocean at perigee around 08:46UT August 15. It will also make Earth encounters in August 15, 2003 and Aug 15, 2004 and February 2005 and 2006. By the look of the launch procedure discussed on the website,
both the second and third stages will be left in ( different )orbits.
See the web page http://www.contour2002.org/ for information about its mission.
I am sure JPL will update predictions after launch.
