A few sub-scale 'tests' were flown on Progress in the 80's. with 'ok' results. Unfolding the mylar didn't always go smoothly. A 'MAJOR' lack of cash has put it on hold till further notice. The plan was to setup large many kilometer on a side mylar sheets in geosync orbit that would reflect sunlight down to wintertime northern Siberia so oil, mining and logging crews could work more and longer days. Reflected Light would have been as bright as a full moon on the ground. This is cheaper than trying to setup nighttime lighting and then supplying the generators with diesel. Unless you were under the beam area, a few sq. miles, the light pollution wouldn't be that bad. Light pollution yes, cheap raw resources from poor russians, maybe. --Ben Firat Barlas wrote: > > I remember an article couple of years ago says that Russians was planning to > construct huge mirror-satellites to reflect sunlight to North of Russia.
